Kyiv is a city of ancient temples, unusual architecture, and talented people. Use this short list of awesome things to do as a starting point for getting acquainted with the city and history of Ukraine.

Stroll along the downtown

St. Michael’s Cathedral — St. Sophia Cathedral — Khreschatyk — Independence Square — European Square — a panoramic platform near the Arch of Friendship of Peoples route will guide you through the history of Ukraine from the time of Kievan Rus to the present.

Take a tour by the Chernobyl series

We feel the echoes of the Chernobyl disaster even today. This is one of the worst tragedies in global history. Such events should not be forgotten. An excursion through the city locations where HBO filmed the series, as well as a visit to the National Chornobyl Museum, which stores artifacts, will allow you to dive into the atmosphere of those times and « relive » the event through your own experience.

Explore Andriyivsky Uzviz

Andriyivsky Uzviz is one of the oldest and most bohemian areas of Kyiv. Here you will find many folk craftsmen, painters, and antique artists. You’ll visit the house of the ever-mysterious « Master and Margarita » author Mikhail Bulgakov. Also, you can admire the shining domes of St. Andrew’s Church and visit the Vozdvyzhenka, prestigious restored community, which now looks like a town in town.

Hang out in Mariyinsky Park

Sightseeing esplanades with unforgettable views of Kyiv. The impressive Mariyinsky Palace, designed by Rastrelli on the order of Empress Elizabeth Petrovna, is now the ceremonial residence of the President of Ukraine. Numerous park sculptures — there is plenty of beauty for panoramic photos and selfies.

Shop organic food at Besarabka local market

Besarabka is a market in the city center. Here you can buy delicious fresh fruits and vegetables and talk to the shopkeepers — Ukrainian « babushkas », hard-working old ladies who are considered the stronghold of Ukraine with their endurance and wise outlook on life.
